As part of the Çetintepe Dam Project, signed with the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works on January 26, 2018, construction of the 116-meter-high embankment dam is nearing completion. Located on the Göksu River in the Gölbaşı distirct of Adıyaman, Çetintepe Dam is the first and main component of the GAP-Adıyaman-Göksu-Araban Project.
Upon completion, the project aims to supply drinking water to Gaziantep and irrigate a total of 70.000 hectares of land across the Araban Plain, Yavuzeli Plain, Besni Keysun, and Besni Kızılin plains, covering area within the provinces of Adıyaman, Gaziantep, and Kahramanmaraş.
Construction of 14 million 345 thousand cubic meters of embankment fill, spillway works, the water intake structure of the conveyance tunnel, the shaft structure, 908 meters of conveyance tunnel excavation, the conduit and the outlet structure of the water intake tunnel were completed in 2025, and reservoir impoundment has commenced. Following the filling of the reservoir area, the gradual commissioning of the irrigation networks will make significant contributions to agricultural production in the region and enhance the reliability of drinking and utility water supply, thereby providing substantial benefits to the area.
